This email is to update you concerning the property located at 25 Deforest Avenue. As you know, at the December 21, 2015, Planning Board meeting, the Board considered Mr. Yeager’s proposal to include 25 Deforest Avenue in the Gateway Zone. If approved, Mr. Yeager intended to build a large residential structure which included a four-story parking garage. After thorough consideration, the Board firmly rejected Mark Yeager’s proposal to have his property included as part of the Gateway Zone and indicated to Mr. Yeager that his proposed residential structure and parking lot were too large in scale for the area. However, the Planning Board was agreeable to entertaining another proposal from Mr. Yeager in the future. Just the other day, on May 23, 2016, Mr. Yeager went before the Planning Board to request certain approvals concerning parking at the 25 Deforest Avenue location. The Application in essence asked the Board to approve additional parking spaces on the lot by making the spaces narrower and altering the lighting. The request did not involve building any additional parking structures on the property. The Planning Board recommended approval of these changes. The developer advised the board that he anticipates that the site will be fully occupied within the next few months.
Issues concerning zoning are reviewed periodically as part of the City’s master plan. As part of the Master Planning process, the City of Summit will be holding a public workshop meeting on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30PM at the Elks Lodge on 40 Maple St. in Summit. The purpose of the June 1 meeting will be to gather feedback from key stakeholders to ensure the creation of a Master Plan re-examination that most effectively guides the development of the community and its policies. The public is encouraged to attend so please consider attending and sharing your views.
